This was actually a great course during the early days of the internet. I learned a bit of everything; working projects in teams, practicing interview technique and Html, Scripting, Data normalisation, Oracle Administration, SQL and the chips and beans in the Student cafeteria were all highlights.
I wrote a literary synthesis on Internet Addiction Disorder in 2001 which was fascinating and served as a warning about the addictive aspects of internet usage.
Heuristic Evaluation and Design in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) for Usability was also extremely interesting.
This was a sandwich course so I had to find a job in the 3rd year which led me to the Big Smoke AKA London. This year out changed my life drastically. I focussed on IT Support within a lovely office above Smithfield Market, learned a lot and fell in love. From that point on I was tethered to London like the Moon to the Earth.
I spent most of my summer off preparing for my dissertation evaluation in the Clapham High Street Nero and Clapham Common. I read so much and was happy to go back to University ready to present my dissertation subject. On my first meeting back I was ripped apart. It was awful and I left that meeting wondering if I should quit university altogether and get back to a job in London.
Not one to let others get me down I got stuck back in and finished the year with a 1st for my dissertation on Communication Techniques within the company I had worked for in my year out.
I got a 2:1 overall and pretty much the next day I was back in London. Ready to find work!
